The first time I heard Anderson .Paak, I did not know what to make of his sound because it is COMPLETELY different from what I have ever heard in the industry today.
You may know him as Brandon, Breezy Lovejoy, as homie of the Free Nationals, one half of NxWorries, the guy from the Grammys (2017), or the artist who has notably collaborated with the likes of A Tribe Called Quest; Dr. Dre; Kaytranada; Mac Miller; Schoolboy Q; Kendrick Lamar; T.I. and the list goes on…
At the 2017 Grammys he had two nominations –
1. Best New Artist
2. Best Urban Contemporary Album (Malibu)
He did not acquire these awards, but was plugged into a few Grammy ads and performed at the award show with one of the greatest Hip-Hop collectives of all time, A Tribe Called Quest.
Anderson .Paak is a singer, rapper, songwriter, drummer, and record producer from Oxnard, California. He has been active since 2009, with notable released works including Venice (2014), Link Up and Suede – EP collab with Knxwledge (2015), and Malibu (2016). His music is highly influenced by greats of the past categorized in Hip Hop, Rap, RnB, Soul, Funk and sometimes Jazz.
.Paak is definitely one of those artists who is here to stay and run the game. I consider Malibu one of the most underrated albums of 2016.
Check out some of his tracks in my Soundcloud or a great starting point would be this Tiny Desk Concert.
